What is Material requirements planning (MRP)?
Definition
Material requirements planning works out which materials to buy or make, how many and by when, from open orders, BOMs and current stock.
MRP compares what production needs with what is in stock or on order, and suggests purchase orders and production jobs to fill the gap before a shortage stops the line.
